My first experiences with the iPhone 5S
My iPhone 5S was just two days old, when we’ve been on a short trip to Milan for a documentary. I shot everything and everyone I could, to test out the 120fps function of the camera. You can imagine I was totally stunned by the quality. Even if it was just 720p. As soon as I got home, I immediately started editing. Really. I didn’t even unpack my bag. 4 hours later it was done. A little grading for the finish and I uploaded it on vimeo.
Who could have thought that the film was such a bomb. Without pushing it on any social networks, the video already had more than 1000 hits the next morning. And that was just the beginning. Even “NoFilmschool” used “Streets of Milano” as an example for the technical progress of mobile cameras.
But even if the iPhone 5S is a great way to get hold of moments you couldn’t catch otherwise, it’s not a tool for serious productions. I rather think of it as a “camcorder” just like the one my father used to have in 1993. A private little gem. —> https://vimeo.com/87128363
